The AWS CLI is a cross-service CLI with a simplified installation, unified configuration, and consistent command line syntax. The AWS CLI is supported on Linux/Unix, Windows, and Mac. The CLI examples in this guide have been updated to use the new AWS CLI.

Updated metrics retention

Amazon CloudWatch now retains the history of an alarm for two weeks rather than six weeks. With this change, the retention period for alarms matches the retention period for metrics data.
