Step 1: Create a DynamoDB Table With a Stream Enabled

In this step, you will create a new DynamoDB table with a stream enabled. Later in this walkthrough, you will create a Lambda function that will be triggered by changes to the DynamoDB table.

  1. Open the DynamoDB console at

  2. Choose Create Table.

  3. In the Create DynamoDB table screen, do the following:

    1. In the Table name field, type StreamsLambdaTable. (This is the name of the table that we will use in this walkthrough.)

    2. For the Primary key, in the Partition key field, type Id. Set the data type to String.

  4. When the settings are as you want them, choose Create.

  5. In the list of tables, choose StreamsLambdaTable.

  6. In the Overview tab, choose Manage Stream, and then do the following:

    • For View Type, choose New and old images.

    • Choose Enable.

You now have a DynamoDB table with a stream enabled.
