If you are no longer using a search domain, you must delete it to avoid incurring additional usage fees. You will still be charged for a domain even if it does not contain any documents—deleting all documents does not delete the domain.
Deleting a domain deletes the index associated with the domain and takes the domain's
document and search endpoints offline permanently. It can take some time to completely remove a domain and all of its resources. Small domains are typically deleted in a few minutes, while it might take several hours to decommission all of the resources for a large domain. During this process, the domain status is set to
You can delete a domain from the Amazon CloudSearch console, using the
aws cloudsearch delete-domain command, or using the AWS SDKs.
You can easily delete a domain from the domain dashboard in the Amazon CloudSearch console.
To delete a domain
Sign in to the AWS Management Console and open the Amazon CloudSearch console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/cloudsearch/home.
In the Navigation pane, click the name of the domain you want to delete.
On the domain dashboard, click the Delete this Domain button.
In the Delete Domain dialog box, enable the checkbox and click OK to confirm that you want to delete the domain.
You use the
aws cloudsearch delete-domain command to delete a search domain and all of its resources.

If you are using the 22.214.171.124 version of the Amazon CloudSearch command line tools, you can use the
cs-delete-domain command to delete a search domain.
However, we recommend that you migrate to the AWS CLI, which provides a cross-service CLI with a simplified installation, unified configuration, and consistent command line syntax.
