Synopsis

Invokes the TagResources operation against AWS Resource Groups Tagging API.

Description

Applies one or more tags to the specified resources. Note the following:
  • Not all resources can have tags. For a list of resources that support tagging, see Supported Resources in the AWS Resource Groups and Tag Editor User Guide.
  • Each resource can have up to 50 tags. For other limits, see Tag Restrictions in the Amazon EC2 User Guide for Linux Instances.
  • You can only tag resources that are located in the specified region for the AWS account.
  • To add tags to a resource, you need the necessary permissions for the service that the resource belongs to as well as permissions for adding tags. For more information, see Obtaining Permissions for Tagging in the AWS Resource Groups and Tag Editor User Guide.

This parameter overrides confirmation prompts to force the cmdlet to continue its operation. This parameter should always be used with caution.

-ResourceARNList <String[]>
A list of ARNs. An ARN (Amazon Resource Name) uniquely identifies a resource. You can specify a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 20 ARNs (resources) to tag. An ARN can be set to a maximum of 1600 characters. For more information, see Amazon Resource Names (ARNs) and AWS Service Namespaces in the AWS General Reference.

The tags that you want to add to the specified resources. A tag consists of a key and a value that you define.

-AccessKey <String>
The AWS access key for the user account. This can be a temporary access key if the corresponding session token is supplied to the -SessionToken parameter.

An AWSCredentials object instance containing access and secret key information, and optionally a token for session-based credentials.

-ProfileLocation <String>

Used to specify the name and location of the ini-format credential file (shared with the AWS CLI and other AWS SDKs)

If this optional parameter is omitted this cmdlet will search the encrypted credential file used by the AWS SDK for .NET and AWS Toolkit for Visual Studio first. If the profile is not found then the cmdlet will search in the ini-format credential file at the default location: (user's home directory)\.aws\credentials. Note that the encrypted credential file is not supported on all platforms. It will be skipped when searching for profiles on Windows Nano Server, Mac, and Linux platforms.

If this parameter is specified then this cmdlet will only search the ini-format credential file at the location given.

As the current folder can vary in a shell or during script execution it is advised that you use specify a fully qualified path instead of a relative path.

-ProfileName <String>
The user-defined name of an AWS credentials or SAML-based role profile containing credential information. The profile is expected to be found in the secure credential file shared with the AWS SDK for .NET and AWS Toolkit for Visual Studio. You can also specify the name of a profile stored in the .ini-format credential file used with the AWS CLI and other AWS SDKs.

-NetworkCredential <PSCredential>
Used with SAML-based authentication when ProfileName references a SAML role profile. Contains the network credentials to be supplied during authentication with the configured identity provider's endpoint. This parameter is not required if the user's default network identity can or should be used during authentication.

-SecretKey <String>
The AWS secret key for the user account. This can be a temporary secret key if the corresponding session token is supplied to the -SessionToken parameter.

-Region <String>
The system name of the AWS region in which the operation should be invoked. For example, us-east-1, eu-west-1 etc.

-EndpointUrl <String>

The endpoint to make the call against.

Note: This parameter is primarily for internal AWS use and is not required/should not be specified for normal usage. The cmdlets normally determine which endpoint to call based on the region specified to the -Region parameter or set as default in the shell (via Set-DefaultAWSRegion). Only specify this parameter if you must direct the call to a specific custom endpoint.

Inputs

You can pipe a String[] object to this cmdlet for the ResourceARNList parameter.

Outputs

This cmdlet returns a collection of String objects. The service call response (type Amazon.ResourceGroupsTaggingAPI.Model.TagResourcesResponse) can also be referenced from properties attached to the cmdlet entry in the $AWSHistory stack.

Example 1

PS C:\> Add-RGTResourceTag -ResourceARNList $arn1,$arn2 -Tag @{ "stage"="beta"; "version"="preprod_test" }
This example adds the tag keys "stage" and "version" with values "beta" and "preprod_test" to an Amazon S3 bucket and an Amazon DynamoDB table. A single call is made to the service to apply the tags.

Example 2

PS C:\> $arn1 = "arn:aws:s3:::mybucket"
PS C:\> $arn2 = "arn:aws:dynamodb:us-west-2:123456789012:table/mytable"

PS C:\> $arn1,$arn2 | Add-RGTResourceTag -Tag @{ "stage"="beta"; "version"="preprod_test" }
This example adds the specified tags and values to an Amazon S3 bucket and an Amazon DynamoDB table. Two calls are made to the service, one for each resource ARN piped into the cmdlet.
