Requesting and Relinquishing Dedicated IP Addresses

This section describes how to request and relinquish dedicated IP addresses. In this process, you submit an SES Sending Limits Increase case in Support Center. Depending on the outcome, you might need to perform some additional steps, as described in the relevant procedures.

Requesting Dedicated IP Addresses

The following steps show how to request dedicated IP addresses for the first time, and how to request additional dedicated IP addresses. You will know that you need to request additional dedicated IP addresses when you start receiving Maximum sending rate exceeded errors when you send emails with Amazon SES.

You can use this process to request as many or as few dedicated IP addresses as you need. We recommend that you request at least three dedicated IP addresses, especially if you plan to use dedicated IP pools. To learn more about IP pools, see Creating Dedicated IP Pools.

To request dedicated IP addresses

  1. Sign in to the AWS Management Console and open the Amazon SES console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/ses/.

  2. Open an SES Sending Limits Increase case in Support Center. You can also access this link using the Dedicated IPs page in the Amazon SES console.

  3. In the case submission form, make the following selections:

    • Regarding – Choose Service Limit Increase.

    • Limit Type – Choose SES Sending Limits.

    • Region – Choose the AWS Region in which you use Amazon SES.

    • Limit – Choose either of the available options.

    • New limit value – Enter the approximate number of emails you plan to send per week from the dedicated IP addresses that you are requesting.

    • Mail Type – Choose the type of email you plan to send using your dedicated IP address. If multiple values apply, choose the type that will make up the majority of your email sending.

    • Website URL – Type the URL of your website. Providing this information will help us better understand the type of content you plan to send.

    • My email sending complies with the AWS Service Terms and AUP – Choose the option that applies to your use case.

    • I only send to recipients who have specifically requested my mail – Choose the option that applies to your use case.

    • I have a process to handle bounces and complaints – Choose the option that applies to your use case.

    • Use Case Description – Describe the ways in which you will use dedicated IP addresses to send email using Amazon SES. Please include information about why you want to use dedicated IP addresses as opposed to shared IP addresses; this information will help us better understand your use case.

Finally, be sure to specify the number of dedicated IP addresses you are requesting; if you do not already have dedicated IP addresses, you must request at least three addresses.

    When you finish, choose Submit.

Once you submit the form, we will evaluate your request. We will reply to your request in Support Center. If your request is granted, the reply will confirm that your dedicated IPs are now associated with your account and they are ready to warm up. For more information about warming up dedicated IP addresses, see Warming Up Dedicated IP Addresses.

Relinquish Dedicated IP Addresses

To relinquish dedicated IP addresses, complete the following steps.

To relinquish dedicated IP addresses

  1. Sign in to the AWS Management Console with the account you use for dedicated IPs, and open an SES Sending Limits Increase case in Support Center. You can also reach this link using the Dedicated IPs page in the Amazon SES console.

  2. In the case submission form, choose the region, choose Desired Maximum Send Rate, and then enter any number. (You will specify how many dedicated IPs you want to relinquish within the use case description.)

  3. For the Use Case Description, tell us that you want to relinquish dedicated IPs, and how many dedicated IPs you want to relinquish.

  4. After we evaluate your request, you will receive a reply within the case asking you to confirm that you want to release the number of dedicated IPs that you specified.

  5. You will receive a case reply confirming that your dedicated IP addresses have been released.
