AWS App Runner is no longer open to new customers. Existing customers can continue to use the service as normal. This guide applies only to existing customers. If you're not an existing customer, AWS recommends Amazon ECS Express Mode. For more information, see [AWS App Runner availability change](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/apprunner/latest/dg/apprunner-availability-change.html).

<a name="setting-up"></a>

If you're a new AWS customer, complete the setup prerequisites that are listed on this page before you start using AWS App Runner.

For these setup procedures, you use the AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) service. For complete information about IAM, see the following reference materials:
+ [AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM)](https://aws.amazon.com/iam/)
+ [IAM User Guide](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/IAM/latest/UserGuide/)

## Sign up for an AWS account
<a name="sign-up-for-aws"></a>

To get started with AWS, you need an AWS account. There are two ways to sign up for AWS. If you want complete control over account configuration and where your content is stored, or if you have regulated workloads such as HIPAA or FedRAMP, use [Sign up for AWS (advanced)](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/accounts/latest/reference/getting-started.html). If you are a new user and want to use a login you already own to sign in to AWS and create an AWS environment with preconfigured defaults in select [AWS Regions](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/accounts/latest/reference/project-regions.html), use [Sign up for AWS](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/accounts/latest/reference/sign-in-new.html).
