## Construct Props

- `allocatedStorage`: number = 100 — The allocated storage size, specified in gibibytes (GiB).

- `allowMajorVersionUpgrade`: boolean = false — Whether to allow major version upgrades.

- `applyImmediately`: boolean — Specifies whether changes to the DB instance and any pending modifications are applied immediately, regardless of the `preferredMaintenanceWindow` setting.

**Default:** Changes will be applied immediately

If set to `false`, changes are applied during the next maintenance window.

Until RDS applies the changes, the DB instance remains in a drift state.
As a result, the configuration doesn't fully reflect the requested modifications and temporarily diverges from the intended state.

This property also determines whether the DB instance reboots when a static parameter is modified in the associated DB parameter group.

- `autoMinorVersionUpgrade`: boolean = true — Indicates that minor engine upgrades are applied automatically to the DB instance during the maintenance window.

- `availabilityZone`: string — The name of the Availability Zone where the DB instance will be located.

  **Default:** no preference

- `backupRetention`: [Duration](/cdk/api/v2/docs/aws-cdk-lib.Duration.html) — The number of days during which automatic DB snapshots are retained.

**Default:** Duration.days(1) for source instances, disabled for read replicas

Set to zero to disable backups.
When creating a read replica, you must enable automatic backups on the source
database instance by setting the backup retention to a value other than zero.

- `caCertificate`: [CaCertificate](/cdk/api/v2/docs/aws-cdk-lib.aws_rds.CaCertificate.html) — The identifier of the CA certificate for this DB instance.

**Default:** RDS will choose a certificate authority

Specifying or updating this property triggers a reboot.

## Methods

- `addProxy(id: string, options: DatabaseProxyOptions): DatabaseProxy` — Add a new db proxy to this instance.

- `addRotationMultiUser(id: string, options: RotationMultiUserOptions): SecretRotation` — Adds the multi user rotation to this instance.

- `addRotationSingleUser(options?: RotationSingleUserOptions): SecretRotation` — Adds the single user rotation of the master password to this instance.

  **Parameters**

  - `options` — the options for the rotation, if you want to override the defaults.

- `applyCrossStackReferenceStrength(strength: ReferenceStrength): void` — Override the cross-stack reference strength for this resource.

When set, any cross-stack reference to this resource will use the specified
mechanism instead of the global default determined by the
`@aws-cdk/core:defaultCrossStackReferences` context key. This is useful for
selectively weakening specific references to avoid the "deadly embrace" problem
  without changing the app-wide default.

  **Parameters**

  - `strength` — - The reference strength to use for this resource.

- `applyRemovalPolicy(policy: RemovalPolicy): void` — Apply the given removal policy to this resource.

The Removal Policy controls what happens to this resource when it stops
being managed by CloudFormation, either because you've removed it from the
CDK application or because you've made a change that requires the resource
  to be replaced.

The resource can be deleted (`RemovalPolicy.DESTROY`), or left in your AWS
account for data recovery and cleanup later (`RemovalPolicy.RETAIN`).

- `asSecretAttachmentTarget(): SecretAttachmentTargetProps` — Renders the secret attachment target specifications.

- `fromDatabaseInstanceAttributes(scope: Construct, id: string, attrs: DatabaseInstanceAttributes): IDatabaseInstance` (static) — Import an existing database instance.

- `fromLookup(scope: Construct, id: string, options: DatabaseInstanceLookupOptions): IDatabaseInstance` (static) — Lookup an existing DatabaseInstance using instanceIdentifier.

- `grantConnect(grantee: IGrantable, dbUser?: string): Grant` — Grant the given identity connection access to the database.

  [disable-awslint:no-grants]

  **Parameters**

  - `grantee` — the Principal to grant the permissions to.
  - `dbUser` — the name of the database user to allow connecting as to the db instance, or the default database user, obtained from the Secret, if not specified.

- `isConstruct(x: any): boolean` (static) — Checks if `x` is a construct.

Use this method instead of `instanceof` to properly detect `Construct`
instances, even when the construct library is symlinked.

Explanation: in JavaScript, multiple copies of the `constructs` library on
disk are seen as independent, completely different libraries. As a
consequence, the class `Construct` in each copy of the `constructs` library
is seen as a different class, and an instance of one class will not test as
`instanceof` the other class. `npm install` will not create installations
like this, but users may manually symlink construct libraries together or
use a monorepo tool: in those cases, multiple copies of the `constructs`
library can be accidentally installed, and `instanceof` will behave
unpredictably. It is safest to avoid using `instanceof`, and using
  this type-testing method instead.

  **Parameters**

  - `x` — Any object.

**Returns:** true if `x` is an object created from a class which extends `Construct`.

- `isOwnedResource(construct: IConstruct): boolean` (static) — Returns true if the construct was created by CDK, and false otherwise.

- `isResource(construct: IConstruct): boolean` (static) — Check whether the given construct is a Resource.

- `metric(metricName: string, props?: MetricOptions): Metric` — Return the given named metric for this DBInstance.

- `metricCPUUtilization(props?: MetricOptions): Metric` — The percentage of CPU utilization.

  Average over 5 minutes

- `metricDatabaseConnections(props?: MetricOptions): Metric` — The number of database connections in use.

  Average over 5 minutes

- `metricFreeableMemory(props?: MetricOptions): Metric` — The amount of available random access memory.

  Average over 5 minutes

- `metricFreeStorageSpace(props?: MetricOptions): Metric` — The amount of available storage space.

  Average over 5 minutes

- `metricReadIOPS(props?: MetricOptions): Metric` — The average number of disk read I/O operations per second. The average number of disk write I/O operations per second.

  Average over 5 minutes

- `metricWriteIOPS(props?: MetricOptions): Metric` — The average number of disk write I/O operations per second. The average number of disk read I/O operations per second.

  Average over 5 minutes

- `onEvent(id: string, options?: OnEventOptions): Rule` — Defines a CloudWatch event rule which triggers for instance events.

  Use
  `rule.addEventPattern(pattern)` to specify a filter.

- `toString(): string` — Returns a string representation of this construct.

- `with(...mixins: IMixin[]): IConstruct` — Applies one or more mixins to this construct.

Mixins are applied in order. The list of constructs is captured at the
start of the call, so constructs added by a mixin will not be visited.
Use multiple `with()` calls if subsequent mixins should apply to added
  constructs.
