Amazon Cloud Directory availability change
Amazon Cloud Directory will no longer be open to new customers starting on November 7, 2025. If you are a customer with data stored on Cloud Directory, you are able to use Cloud Directory normally.
We launched Cloud Directory in 2017 so that you could build flexible, cloud-native directories for storing hierarchical data. In 2018, we launched Amazon Neptune as the AWS graph database and enhanced Amazon DynamoDB to meet your scaling needs as a serverless NoSQL database. Because of the richer features in these two services, we stopped building new features for Cloud Directory in 2018 but continued supporting the service.
Customers with data stored on Cloud Directory are able to continue using Cloud Directory normally, including creating new directories, adding and updating data and using all existing Cloud Directory functionality.
Amazon Neptune, a graph database service, and Amazon DynamoDB, a serverless NoSQL database service, are AWS alternatives to Cloud Directory's hierarchical databases. Amazon Neptune serves applications with interconnected data, powering fraud detection, knowledge graphs, and recommendation engines. Amazon DynamoDB manages key-value and document data structures for applications requiring high scalability and performance. Migration from Cloud Directory requires data transfer and updates to your application to the different APIs and query patterns supported by the new service.
