# Release: Elastic Beanstalk Amazon Linux 2023 platform updates on February 22, 2024 This release provides new versions for AWS Elastic Beanstalk platforms based on Amazon Linux 2023. The release includes security updates. It also includes AMI, Docker, ECS based Docker, Corretto, Tomcat, and PHP updates. **Release date:** February 22, 2024 ## Changes The following table lists the changes included in this release. **Notes** These release notes focus on changes to currently supported platform branches. AMI	Updated the base AMI to version 2023.3.20240219.
All platforms	This release resolves an issue where System Security Services Daemon (SSSD ) fails to start on AL2023 EC2 instances, due to a missing log file in the `/var/log/sssd` directory. We updated the platform logic to prevent the deletion of the directory.

Docker	ECS Docker platform branch Updated Amazon ECS Agent to version 1.81.0. Docker platform branch Updated Docker Compose to version 2.24.6. Additional changes to the Docker platform branch with this release This release resolves an issue with build cache expanding across multiple deployments to the same EC2 instance. In order to provide this resolution it adds an explicit step to prune the Docker build cache after deploying the application. These changes do not apply to the ECS Docker platform.
Corretto	Language runtime updates Updated Corretto 21 to version 21.0.2.14.1. Updated Corretto 17 to version 17.0.10.8.1. Both language updates are security releases. Tools Updates Updated Gradle to version 8.6.
Tomcat	Tomcat 9 platform branches Updated Tomcat 9 to version 9.0.83. For more information see the Tomcat change log. Updated Corretto 17 to version 17.0.10.8.1. Tomcat 10 platform branches Updated Tomcat 10 to version 10.1.19. For more information see the Tomcat change log. Updated Corretto 17 to version 17.0.10.8.1. The Corretto 17 language runtime update is a security release.
PHP	Language runtime updates Updated PHP 8.1 release to 8.1.27. Updated PHP 8.2 release to 8.2.15. Additional changes to the PHP platform branch with this release This platform release updates Composer to version 2.7.1. This platform release applies a patch to CVE-2024-24821. Version 2.7.0 of Composer introduced this patch. Starting with this release, the Composer `install` command now executes as the webapp user instead of the root user. This release changes the default Composer cache directory from `/root` to `/home/webapp/.cache/composer/`. Starting with this release, the https://getcomposer.org/doc/03-cli.md#composer-home environment variable is no longer set to `/root` by default. Starting with this release, the Composer `install` command will fail if the `COMPOSER_HOME` environment variable is set to `/root`. If you have a custom configuration that sets this variable, you may need to update it. For more information, see Updating Composer in the AWS Elastic Beanstalk Platforms guide.
Python	Updated Pipenv to release 2023.12.1 for both the Python 3.9 and Python 3.11 platform branches. For details, see the Pipenv Release and Version History.
