Release: Elastic Beanstalk Amazon Linux 2023 PHP platform updates for PHP 8.3 and PHP 8.2 on October 22, 2026

This release provides new versions for AWS Elastic Beanstalk PHP 8.3 and PHP 8.2 platforms based on Amazon Linux 2023. The release includes security updates. It also includes AMI and PHP updates, and restores the default value of a PHP configuration setting.

To update your environments to the new platform versions, see Updating your Elastic Beanstalk environment's platform version in the AWS Elastic Beanstalk Developer Guide. If you've turned on managed platform updates, Elastic Beanstalk applies the new platform versions to your environments during their weekly maintenance window.

Be aware that at the time these release notes are published, the new platform versions might not yet be available in all the AWS Regions that Elastic Beanstalk supports. It might take a few hours for the release to complete.

Security updates

Applied all security updates published in the Amazon Linux Security Center on or before October 21, 2026 to the PHP 8.3 and PHP 8.2 AL2023 platforms.

Platform-specific updates

Made these platform-specific updates:

Platform Update

PHP

  • Updated PHP 8.3 to version 8.3.36.

  • Updated PHP 8.2 to version 8.2.35.

  • PHP 8.3.36 and PHP 8.2.35 address CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619. For details, see the PHP security announcement. The PHP 8.5 and PHP 8.4 platform update included the PHP 8.5 and PHP 8.4 versions that address these issues.

  • Restored the default value of the session.upload_progress.enabled setting on the PHP 8.3 and PHP 8.2 platform branches. The October 21, 2026 PHP platform update turned off this setting.

  • Updated the base AMI to version 2023.12.20261021.

  • Updated PIE (PHP Installer for Extensions) to version 1.5.3.
