Creating a Channel - AWS Elemental Conductor Live 3

This is version 3.17 of the AWS Elemental Conductor Live 3 documentation. This is the latest version. For prior versions, see the Previous Versions section of AWS Elemental Conductor Live 3 Documentation.

Creating a Channel

To create a channel

  1. Before creating a channel:

    • Make sure you have created the profile that the channel will be associated with.

    • Associate a node with the channel either at creation or after creation (see Modifying a Channel).

  2. On the Channels screen, choose New Channel. The Create a New Channel dialog appears.

  3. Complete the dialog as follows:

    Field Description Comment
    Name Any name Required
    Profile
    • Select from the list of existing profiles. For information on the purpose of the profile, see Setting Up Profiles.

    • A channel may need its own profile because the channel requires specific settings. A channel may use an existing profile.

    • If you are creating a channel for use in a Multiple Program Transport Stream (MPTS) output, select a profile that meets the MPTS criteria; see Using SDI Router Input in a Profile and Channel.

    Required
    Node
    • Select the AWS Elemental Live node where the channel will run or else select “None” if you do not want to specify the node yet (you must specify it before you can run the channel).

    • Nodes that are reserve nodes in a redundancy group (Cluster > Redundancy screen) do not appear in this list.

    • You may dedicate a node to a channel so that the node does not run other channels, or you may choose to run several channels all on the same node (depending on the channel bitrates and other factors).

    • Make sure you choose a node that can perform the actions in the profile, specifically: if the profile uses a licensed code such as HEVC for output, then the node must be licensed for that codec; if the profile specifies encoding via GPU (see the illustration below), then the node must have a GPU-enabled version of AWS Elemental Live.

    Required
    Channel Parameters

Once you select a profile, a list of channel parameters may appear. Enter the value for this parameter for this specific channel.

Channel parameters, if they exist, are set up in the profile to allow you to assign a value for this parameter that is unique to this channel rather than being specified by the profile. For more information, see Creating a Profile with Channel Parameters.

Note that you can preview the incoming source on the input parameter (“file” in the example above).

A value is required in the channel parameter only if the corresponding parameter (field) is itself required.

  4. Choose Save. The channel is created. If you specified all the parameters, then the channel is ready to run: see Starting and Stopping Channels.
