Synopsis

Calls the AWS Resource Groups Tagging API TagResources API operation.

Description

Applies one or more tags to the specified resources. Note the following:
  • Not all resources can have tags. For a list of services with resources that support tagging using this operation, see Services that support the Resource Groups Tagging API. If the resource doesn't yet support this operation, the resource's service might support tagging using its own API operations. For more information, refer to the documentation for that service.
  • Each resource can have up to 50 tags. For other limits, see Tag Naming and Usage Conventions in the Amazon Web Services General Reference.
  • You can only tag resources that are located in the specified Amazon Web Services Region for the Amazon Web Services account.
  • To add tags to a resource, you need the necessary permissions for the service that the resource belongs to as well as permissions for adding tags. For more information, see the documentation for each service.
Do not store personally identifiable information (PII) or other confidential or sensitive information in tags. We use tags to provide you with billing and administration services. Tags are not intended to be used for private or sensitive data. Minimum permissions In addition to the tag:TagResources permission required by this operation, you must also have the tagging permission defined by the service that created the resource. For example, to tag an Amazon EC2 instance using the TagResources operation, you must have both of the following permissions:
  • tag:TagResource
  • ec2:CreateTags

Use the -Select parameter to control the cmdlet output. The default value is 'FailedResourcesMap'. Specifying -Select '*' will result in the cmdlet returning the whole service response (Amazon.ResourceGroupsTaggingAPI.Model.TagResourcesResponse). Specifying the name of a property of type Amazon.ResourceGroupsTaggingAPI.Model.TagResourcesResponse will result in that property being returned. Specifying -Select '^ParameterName' will result in the cmdlet returning the selected cmdlet parameter value.

Used to specify the name and location of the ini-format credential file (shared with the AWS CLI and other AWS SDKs)If this optional parameter is omitted this cmdlet will search the encrypted credential file used by the AWS SDK for .NET and AWS Toolkit for Visual Studio first. If the profile is not found then the cmdlet will search in the ini-format credential file at the default location: (user's home directory)\.aws\credentials.If this parameter is specified then this cmdlet will only search the ini-format credential file at the location given.As the current folder can vary in a shell or during script execution it is advised that you use specify a fully qualified path instead of a relative path.

The user-defined name of an AWS credentials or SAML-based role profile containing credential information. The profile is expected to be found in the secure credential file shared with the AWS SDK for .NET and AWS Toolkit for Visual Studio. You can also specify the name of a profile stored in the .ini-format credential file used with the AWS CLI and other AWS SDKs.

Outputs

This cmdlet returns a collection of System.String objects. The service call response (type Amazon.ResourceGroupsTaggingAPI.Model.TagResourcesResponse) can also be referenced from properties attached to the cmdlet entry in the $AWSHistory stack.

Example 1

This example adds the tag keys "stage" and "version" with values "beta" and "preprod_test" to an Amazon S3 bucket and an Amazon DynamoDB table. A single call is made to the service to apply the tags.

Example 2

This example adds the specified tags and values to an Amazon S3 bucket and an Amazon DynamoDB table. Two calls are made to the service, one for each resource ARN piped into the cmdlet.
