Synopsis

Calls the AWS Organizations ListParents API operation.

Description

Lists the root or organizational units (OUs) that serve as the immediate parent of the specified child OU or account. This operation, along with ListChildren enables you to traverse the tree structure that makes up this root. When calling List* operations, always check the NextToken response parameter value, even if you receive an empty result set. These operations can occasionally return an empty set of results even when more results are available. Continue making requests until NextToken returns null. A null NextToken value indicates that you have retrieved all available results. You can only call this operation from the management account or a member account that is a delegated administrator. In the current release, a child can have only a single parent.

This cmdlet automatically pages all available results to the pipeline - parameters related to iteration are only needed if you want to manually control the paginated output. To disable autopagination, use -NoAutoIteration.

Parameters

-ChildId <String>
ID for the OU or account whose parent containers you want to list. Don't specify a root.The regex pattern for a child ID string requires one of the following:
  • Account - A string that consists of exactly 12 digits.
  • Organizational unit (OU) - A string that begins with "ou-" followed by from 4 to 32 lowercase letters or digits (the ID of the root that contains the OU). This string is followed by a second "-" dash and from 8 to 32 additional lowercase letters or digits.

-MaxResult <Int32>
The maximum number of items to return in the response. If more results exist than the specified MaxResults value, a token is included in the response so that you can retrieve the remaining results.
Note: In AWSPowerShell and AWSPowerShell.NetCore this parameter is used to limit the total number of items returned by the cmdlet.
In AWS.Tools this parameter is simply passed to the service to specify how many items should be returned by each service call.
Pipe the output of this cmdlet into Select-Object -First to terminate retrieving data pages early and control the number of items returned.

-NextToken <String>
The parameter for receiving additional results if you receive a NextToken response in a previous request. A NextToken response indicates that more output is available. Set this parameter to the value of the previous call's NextToken response to indicate where the output should continue from.
Note: This parameter is only used if you are manually controlling output pagination of the service API call.
'NextToken' is only returned by the cmdlet when '-Select *' is specified. In order to manually control output pagination, set '-NextToken' to null for the first call then set the 'NextToken' using the same property output from the previous call for subsequent calls.

By default the cmdlet will auto-iterate and retrieve all results to the pipeline by performing multiple service calls. If set, the cmdlet will retrieve only the next 'page' of results using the value of NextToken as the start point.

-Select <String>
Use the -Select parameter to control the cmdlet output. The default value is 'Parents'. Specifying -Select '*' will result in the cmdlet returning the whole service response (Amazon.Organizations.Model.ListParentsResponse). Specifying the name of a property of type Amazon.Organizations.Model.ListParentsResponse will result in that property being returned. Specifying -Select '^ParameterName' will result in the cmdlet returning the selected cmdlet parameter value.

Used with SAML-based authentication when ProfileName references a SAML role profile. Contains the network credentials to be supplied during authentication with the configured identity provider's endpoint. This parameter is not required if the user's default network identity can or should be used during authentication.

Used to specify the name and location of the ini-format credential file (shared with the AWS CLI and other AWS SDKs)If this optional parameter is omitted this cmdlet will search the encrypted credential file used by the AWS SDK for .NET and AWS Toolkit for Visual Studio first. If the profile is not found then the cmdlet will search in the ini-format credential file at the default location: (user's home directory)\.aws\credentials.If this parameter is specified then this cmdlet will only search the ini-format credential file at the location given.As the current folder can vary in a shell or during script execution it is advised that you use specify a fully qualified path instead of a relative path.
