The content of this guide can be applied to any migration strategy, such as rehost, replatform, and refactor. The example cutover runbook, which is in the Attachments section, specifically refers to the rehost strategy using AWS Application Migration Service. However, with a few minor modifications, the example cutover runbook can be applied to other R type migration strategies.

Who is responsible for conducting cutover runbook walkthroughs?

Usually, the designated Migration Lead is responsible for organizing and conducting cutover runbook walkthroughs.

Can we reuse an application’s cutover runbook for multiple environments?

Some steps of the cutover runbook might overlap between development, test, and production environments. However, we recommend tailoring the cutover runbook for each application environment because they might have different infrastructure or supporting teams.
