Appendix E: Collection of Anonymous Data

This solution includes an option to send anonymous usage data to AWS. We use this data to better understand how customers use this solution to improve the services and products that we offer. When enabled, two event types trigger the collection and sending of anonymous data to AWS.

During initial deployment of the transit-vpc-primary-account AWS CloudFormation template, the following information is collected:

  • Solution ID: The AWS solution identifier

  • Unique ID (UUID): Randomly generated, unique identifier for each transit VPC deployment

  • Timestamp: Data-collection timestamp

  • CSR Type: The CSR instance throughput requirements selected (e.g., 2x500Mbps)

  • CSR License Model: BYOL or license included

Each time the VGW Poller AWS Lambda function adds a new spoke VPC, the following information is collected:

  • UUID: Randomly generated, unique identifier for each VPN connection

  • Timestamp: Data-collection timestamp

  • AWS Region: VPN connections created (e.g., "us-east-1" : 2)

Note that AWS will own the data gathered via this survey. Data collection will be subject to the AWS Privacy Policy. To opt out of this feature, modify the AWS CloudFormation template mapping section as follows:

"Send" : { "AnonymousUsage" : { "Data" : "Yes" } },
