Migrating Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes to Amazon WorkMail
You can migrate to Amazon WorkMail from Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Office 365, Google Apps for Work, and many other platforms by working with one of our partners. For more information about partners, see Amazon WorkMail. You can also use the Amazon WorkMail migration tool to migrate your mailboxes from Microsoft Exchange Server to Amazon WorkMail. You can install and run the migration tool on Amazon WorkSpaces, on an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instance running Microsoft Windows, or on computers running Microsoft Windows in your network. The migration tool only migrates mailbox content such as folders, email, calendar items, contacts, tasks, and notes.

You can run the Amazon WorkMail migration tool from one or more client computers in your network or from one or more EC2 instances. If you run more than one instance of the migration tool, you can run those multiple instances in parallel. Each instance of the migration tool migrates a specific list of users to migrate.
The migration tool reads the list of users to migrate.
Using the Microsoft Outlook profile of the source server you provided in the configuration file, the migration tool opens the mailbox for each user.
The migration tool retrieves the mailbox data for each user.
The migration tool synchronizes the mailbox data to the destination mailbox on Amazon WorkMail using the Microsoft Outlook profile of the destination server.
After the initial mailbox synchronization is complete, it only synchronizes the latest changes if you run the migration tool again.
Amazon WorkMail Email Migration Best Practices
To experience the best performance with the migration tool, we recommend the following best practices:
To benefit from lower latencies and to get a higher throughput, run the migration tool on EC2 instances in regions as close as possible to Amazon WorkMail endpoints.
When you migrate larger batches of users, run the migration tool from multiple hosts (client computers or EC2 instances) so that each host processes a different subset of the users.
