Synopsis

Calls the AWS Identity and Access Management DeactivateMFADevice API operation.

Description

Deactivates the specified MFA device and removes it from association with the user name for which it was originally enabled. For more information about creating and working with virtual MFA devices, see Enabling a virtual multi-factor authentication (MFA) device in the IAM User Guide.

Use the -Select parameter to control the cmdlet output. The cmdlet doesn't have a return value by default. Specifying -Select '*' will result in the cmdlet returning the whole service response (Amazon.IdentityManagement.Model.DeactivateMFADeviceResponse). Specifying -Select '^ParameterName' will result in the cmdlet returning the selected cmdlet parameter value.

The serial number that uniquely identifies the MFA device. For virtual MFA devices, the serial number is the device ARN.This parameter allows (through its regex pattern) a string of characters consisting of upper and lowercase alphanumeric characters with no spaces. The name of the user whose MFA device you want to deactivate.This parameter is optional. If no user name is included, it defaults to the principal making the request. When you make this request with root user credentials, you must use an AssumeRoot session to omit the user name.This parameter allows (through its regex pattern) a string of characters consisting of upper and lowercase alphanumeric characters with no spaces. You can also include any of the following characters: _+=,.@-

This cmdlet does not generate any output.The service response (type Amazon.IdentityManagement.Model.DeactivateMFADeviceResponse) be returned by specifying '-Select *'.

Examples

Example 1

Disable-IAMMFADevice -UserName "Bob" -SerialNumber "123456789012"
This command disables the hardware MFA device associated with the user Bob that has the serial number 123456789012.

Example 2

Disable-IAMMFADevice -UserName "David" -SerialNumber "arn:aws:iam::210987654321:mfa/David"
This command disables the virtual MFA device associated with the user David that has the ARN arn:aws:iam::210987654321:mfa/David.
Note that virtual MFA device is not deleted from the account. The virtual device is still present and appears in the output of the Get-IAMVirtualMFADevice command. Before you can create a new virtual MFA device for the same user, you must delete the old one by using the Remove-IAMVirtualMFADevice command.
