Synopsis

Calls the AWS Resource Groups CreateGroup API operation.

Description

Creates a resource group with the specified name and description. You can optionally include either a resource query or a service configuration. For more information about constructing a resource query, see Build queries and groups in Resource Groups in the Resource Groups User Guide. For more information about service-linked groups and service configurations, see Service configurations for Resource Groups. Minimum permissions To run this command, you must have the following permissions:
  • resource-groups:CreateGroup

A configuration associates the resource group with an Amazon Web Services service and specifies how the service can interact with the resources in the group. A configuration is an array of GroupConfigurationItem elements. For details about the syntax of service configurations, see Service configurations for Resource Groups.A resource group can contain either a Configuration or a ResourceQuery, but not both.

-Name <String>
The name of the group, which is the identifier of the group in other operations. You can't change the name of a resource group after you create it. A resource group name can consist of letters, numbers, hyphens, periods, and underscores. The name cannot start with AWS, aws, or any other possible capitalization; these are reserved. A resource group name must be unique within each Amazon Web Services Region in your Amazon Web Services account.

Changes the cmdlet behavior to return the value passed to the ResourceQuery parameter. The -PassThru parameter is deprecated, use -Select '^ResourceQuery' instead. This parameter will be removed in a future version.

The resource query that determines which Amazon Web Services resources are members of this group. For more information about resource queries, see Create a tag-based group in Resource Groups. A resource group can contain either a ResourceQuery or a Configuration, but not both.

Use the -Select parameter to control the cmdlet output. The default value is '*'. Specifying -Select '*' will result in the cmdlet returning the whole service response (Amazon.ResourceGroups.Model.CreateGroupResponse). Specifying the name of a property of type Amazon.ResourceGroups.Model.CreateGroupResponse will result in that property being returned. Specifying -Select '^ParameterName' will result in the cmdlet returning the selected cmdlet parameter value.

Contains the network credentials to be supplied during authentication with the configured identity provider's endpoint. This parameter is not required if the user's default network identity can or should be used during authentication.

Used to specify the name and location of the ini-format credential file (shared with the AWS CLI and other AWS SDKs)If this optional parameter is omitted this cmdlet will search the encrypted credential file used by the AWS SDK for .NET and AWS Toolkit for Visual Studio first. If the profile is not found then the cmdlet will search in the ini-format credential file at the default location: (user's home directory)\.aws\credentials.If this parameter is specified then this cmdlet will only search the ini-format credential file at the location given.As the current folder can vary in a shell or during script execution it is advised that you use specify a fully qualified path instead of a relative path.

Outputs

This cmdlet returns an Amazon.ResourceGroups.Model.CreateGroupResponse object containing multiple properties. The object can also be referenced from properties attached to the cmdlet entry in the $AWSHistory stack.

This example creates a new tag-based AWS Resource Groups resource group named TestPowerShellGroup. The group includes Amazon EC2 instances in the current region that are tagged with the tag key "Name", and tag value "test2". The command returns the query and type of group, and the results of the operation.
