Synopsis

Calls the AWS Identity and Access Management PutGroupPolicy API operation.

Description

Adds or updates an inline policy document that is embedded in the specified IAM group. A user can also have managed policies attached to it. To attach a managed policy to a group, use AttachGroupPolicy. To create a new managed policy, use CreatePolicy. For information about policies, see Managed policies and inline policies in the IAM User Guide. For information about the maximum number of inline policies that you can embed in a group, see IAM and STS quotas in the IAM User Guide. Because policy documents can be large, you should use POST rather than GET when calling PutGroupPolicy. For general information about using the Query API with IAM, see Making query requests in the IAM User Guide.

The name of the group to associate the policy with.This parameter allows (through its regex pattern) a string of characters consisting of upper and lowercase alphanumeric characters with no spaces. You can also include any of the following characters: _+=,.@-.

-PolicyDocument <String>
The policy document.You must provide policies in JSON format in IAM. However, for CloudFormation templates formatted in YAML, you can provide the policy in JSON or YAML format. CloudFormation always converts a YAML policy to JSON format before submitting it to IAM.The regex pattern used to validate this parameter is a string of characters consisting of the following:
  • Any printable ASCII character ranging from the space character (\u0020) through the end of the ASCII character range
  • The printable characters in the Basic Latin and Latin-1 Supplement character set (through \u00FF)
  • The special characters tab (\u0009), line feed (\u000A), and carriage return (\u000D)

Use the -Select parameter to control the cmdlet output. The cmdlet doesn't have a return value by default. Specifying -Select '*' will result in the cmdlet returning the whole service response (Amazon.IdentityManagement.Model.PutGroupPolicyResponse). Specifying -Select '^ParameterName' will result in the cmdlet returning the selected cmdlet parameter value.

This parameter is not required if the user's default network identity can or should be used during authentication.

Used to specify the name and location of the ini-format credential file (shared with the AWS CLI and other AWS SDKs)If this optional parameter is omitted this cmdlet will search the encrypted credential file used by the AWS SDK for .NET and AWS Toolkit for Visual Studio first. If the profile is not found then the cmdlet will search in the ini-format credential file at the default location: (user's home directory)\.aws\credentials.If this parameter is specified then this cmdlet will only search the ini-format credential file at the location given.As the current folder can vary in a shell or during script execution it is advised that you use specify a fully qualified path instead of a relative path.

This cmdlet does not generate any output.The service response (type Amazon.IdentityManagement.Model.PutGroupPolicyResponse) be returned by specifying '-Select *'.

Examples

Example 1

Write-IAMGroupPolicy -GroupName AppTesters -PolicyName AppTesterPolicy -PolicyDocument (Get-Content -Raw apptesterpolicy.json)
This example creates an inline policy named AppTesterPolicy and embeds it in the IAM group AppTesters. If an inline policy with the same name already exists, then it is overwritten. The JSON policy content comes the file apptesterpolicy.json. Note that you must use the -Raw parameter to successfully process the content of the JSON file.
