April 2022 (document history)

Enterprises have been migrating and operating SAP on AWS since 2008. Since 2014, the SAP Global Specialty Practice team of AWS Professional Services has been providing expertise for automating SAP workload tasks in the AWS Cloud. This automation reduces the frequency of manual tasks, improves efficiency, and benefits enterprises by delivering a consistent and reliable experience when operating SAP systems. Enterprises require a proven, tested way to manage their SAP workloads in the cloud. That solution must be secure, fast, and cost-effective, with minimum risk and maximum reliability. This document, at a high level, provides a holistic view of some AWS capabilities that enable you to automate SAP operations.

Intended audience

This document is designed for senior stakeholders managing their enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions, such as chief information officers (CIOs), chief digital officers (CDOs), vice presidents (VPs), and directors of enterprise application teams, SAP or ERP Competence Centers, and IT infrastructure teams. It introduces AWS automation capabilities that can streamline SAP operations in the AWS Cloud. The goal is to select, customize, and deploy AWS capabilities that provide maximum benefit. As such, this document doesn’t focus on technical details, although it can be used by technical consultants, solution architects, and other staff for planning and communications. This document includes links to deeper technical content on SAP technologies and AWS operations.
