Synopsis

Calls the AWS Identity and Access Management AttachRolePolicy API operation.

Description

Attaches the specified managed policy to the specified IAM role. When you attach a managed policy to a role, the managed policy becomes part of the role's permission (access) policy. You cannot use a managed policy as the role's trust policy. The role's trust policy is created at the same time as the role, using CreateRole. You can update a role's trust policy using UpdateAssumerolePolicy. Use this operation to attach a managed policy to a role. To embed an inline policy in a role, use PutRolePolicy. For more information about policies, see Managed policies and inline policies in the IAM User Guide. As a best practice, you can validate your IAM policies. Use the -Select parameter to control the cmdlet output. The cmdlet doesn't have a return value by default. Specifying -Select '*' will result in the cmdlet returning the whole service response (Amazon.IdentityManagement.Model.AttachRolePolicyResponse). Specifying -Select '^ParameterName' will result in the cmdlet returning the selected cmdlet parameter value.

This cmdlet does not generate any output.The service response (type Amazon.IdentityManagement.Model.AttachRolePolicyResponse) be returned by specifying '-Select *'.

Examples

Example 1

Register-IAMRolePolicy -RoleName CoSecurityAuditors -PolicyArn arn:aws:iam::aws:policy/SecurityAudit
This example attaches the AWS managed policy named SecurityAudit to the IAM role CoSecurityAuditors. The users who assume that role are immediately affected by the permissions defined in the latest version of that policy.
