Release: Elastic Beanstalk Amazon Linux 2 platform updates on November 15, 2023

This release provides new versions for AWS Elastic Beanstalk platforms based on Amazon Linux 2. The release includes security updates. It also includes AMI, Apache httpd, Go, .NET Core, PHP, Ruby updates, and some platform deprecation announcements.

  • Be aware that at the time these release notes are published, the new platform versions might not yet be available in all the AWS Regions that Elastic Beanstalk supports. It might take a few hours for the release to complete.

Applied all security updates published in the Amazon Linux Security Center on or before November 1, 2023 to all Amazon Linux 2 platforms.

Updated the base AMI to version 2.0.20231101.

Apache

Updated platforms supporting the Apache HTTP Server 2.4 to version 2.4.58. For details, see Changes with Apache 2.4.58 on the Apache Software Foundation website.

This a security release.

Platform deprecation

Today we're announcing that several platform branches based on Amazon Linux 2 will retire on September 30, 2024 due to end of support by the owners of their language runtime components. These platform branches are now deprecated. If you currently use any of these retiring platforms, we strongly recommend that you start planning your migration from each one of them to a current, fully supported version.

The following platform branches are now deprecated:

  • Corretto 8 with Tomcat 8.5

  • Corretto 11 with Tomcat 8.5

  • PHP 8.0

  • Ruby 3.0

Deprecated platform branches aren't listed on the Supported platforms page of the AWS Elastic Beanstalk Platforms guide. They are listed on a separate page, Retiring platform versions.
