Synopsis

Calls the AWS CloudFormation DescribeStacks API operation.

Description

Returns the description for the specified stack; if no stack name was specified, then it returns the description for all the stacks created. If the stack doesn't exist, an ValidationError is returned.

This cmdlet automatically pages all available results to the pipeline - parameters related to iteration are only needed if you want to manually control the paginated output. To disable autopagination, use -NoAutoIteration.

-NextToken <String>
A string that identifies the next page of stacks that you want to retrieve.
Note: This parameter is only used if you are manually controlling output pagination of the service API call.
In order to manually control output pagination, use '-NextToken $null' for the first call and '-NextToken $AWSHistory.LastServiceResponse.NextToken' for subsequent calls.

By default the cmdlet will auto-iterate and retrieve all results to the pipeline by performing multiple service calls. If set, the cmdlet will retrieve only the next 'page' of results using the value of NextToken as the start point.

-PassThru <SwitchParameter>
Changes the cmdlet behavior to return the value passed to the StackName parameter. The -PassThru parameter is deprecated, use -Select '^StackName' instead. This parameter will be removed in a future version.

Use the -Select parameter to control the cmdlet output. The default value is 'Stacks'. Specifying -Select '*' will result in the cmdlet returning the whole service response (Amazon.CloudFormation.Model.DescribeStacksResponse). Specifying the name of a property of type Amazon.CloudFormation.Model.DescribeStacksResponse will result in that property being returned. Specifying -Select '^ParameterName' will result in the cmdlet returning the selected cmdlet parameter value.

The name or the unique stack ID that's associated with the stack, which aren't always interchangeable:
  • Running stacks: You can specify either the stack's name or its unique stack ID.
  • Deleted stacks: You must specify the unique stack ID.

The user-defined name of an AWS credentials or SAML-based role profile containing credential information. The profile is expected to be found in the secure credential file shared with the AWS SDK for .NET and AWS Toolkit for Visual Studio. Amazon.CloudFormation.Model.Stack or Amazon.CloudFormation.Model.DescribeStacksResponse
This cmdlet returns a collection of Amazon.CloudFormation.Model.Stack objects. The service call response (type Amazon.CloudFormation.Model.DescribeStacksResponse) can also be referenced from properties attached to the cmdlet entry in the $AWSHistory stack.

Returns a collection of Stack instances describing all of the user's stacks using manual paging. The starting token for the next page is retrieved after every call with $null indicating no more details remain to be retrieved.
