Synopsis

Calls the Amazon Relational Database Service DescribeEventCategories API operation.

Description

Displays a list of categories for all event source types, or, if specified, for a specified source type. You can also see this list in the "Amazon RDS event categories and event messages" section of the Amazon RDS User Guide or the Amazon Aurora User Guide.

Note: For scripts written against earlier versions of this module this cmdlet can also be invoked with the alias, Get-RDSEventCategories.

Changes the cmdlet behavior to return the value passed to the SourceType parameter. The -PassThru parameter is deprecated, use -Select '^SourceType' instead. This parameter will be removed in a future version.

Use the -Select parameter to control the cmdlet output. The default value is 'EventCategoriesMapList'. Specifying -Select '*' will result in the cmdlet returning the whole service response (Amazon.RDS.Model.DescribeEventCategoriesResponse). Specifying the name of a property of type Amazon.RDS.Model.DescribeEventCategoriesResponse will result in that property being returned. Specifying -Select '^ParameterName' will result in the cmdlet returning the selected cmdlet parameter value.

This cmdlet returns a collection of Amazon.RDS.Model.EventCategoriesMap objects. The service call response (type Amazon.RDS.Model.DescribeEventCategoriesResponse) can also be referenced from properties attached to the cmdlet entry in the $AWSHistory stack.
