Synopsis

Calls the AWS Identity and Access Management AttachGroupPolicy API operation.

Description

Attaches the specified managed policy to the specified IAM group. You use this operation to attach a managed policy to a group. To embed an inline policy in a group, use PutGroupPolicy. As a best practice, you can validate your IAM policies. To learn more, see Validating IAM policies in the IAM User Guide. For more information about policies, see Managed policies and inline policies in the IAM User Guide.

The name (friendly name, not ARN) of the group to attach the policy to.This parameter allows (through its regex pattern) a string of characters consisting of upper and lowercase alphanumeric characters with no spaces. You can also include any of the following characters: _+=,.@-

Use the -Select parameter to control the cmdlet output. The cmdlet doesn't have a return value by default. Specifying -Select '*' will result in the cmdlet returning the whole service response (Amazon.IdentityManagement.Model.AttachGroupPolicyResponse). Specifying -Select '^ParameterName' will result in the cmdlet returning the selected cmdlet parameter value.

Only specify this parameter if you must direct the call to a specific custom endpoint.

If the profile is not found then the cmdlet will search in the ini-format credential file at the default location: (user's home directory)\.aws\credentials.If this parameter is specified then this cmdlet will only search the ini-format credential file at the location given.As the current folder can vary in a shell or during script execution it is advised that you use specify a fully qualified path instead of a relative path.

The user-defined name of an AWS credentials or SAML-based role profile containing credential information. This cmdlet does not generate any output.The service response (type Amazon.IdentityManagement.Model.AttachGroupPolicyResponse) be returned by specifying '-Select *'.

Examples

Example 1

Register-IAMGroupPolicy -GroupName Testers -PolicyArn arn:aws:iam::123456789012:policy/TesterPolicy
This example attaches the customer managed policy named TesterPolicy to the IAM group Testers. The users in that group are immediately affected by the permissions defined in the default version of that policy.

Example 2

Register-IAMGroupPolicy -GroupName Admins -PolicyArn arn:aws:iam::aws:policy/AdministratorAccess
This example attaches the AWS managed policy named AdministratorAccess to the IAM group Admins. The users in that group are immediately affected by the permissions defined in the latest version of that policy.
