Synopsis

Calls the Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) PutBucketTagging API operation.

Description

Sets the tags for a bucket. Use tags to organize your AWS bill to reflect your own cost structure. To do this, sign up to get your AWS account bill with tag key values included. Then, to see the cost of combined resources, organize your billing information according to resources with the same tag key values. For example, you can tag several resources with a specific application name, and then organize your billing information to see the total cost of that application across several services. For more information, see Cost Allocation and Tagging. Within a bucket, if you add a tag that has the same key as an existing tag, the new value overwrites the old value. For more information, see Using Cost Allocation in Amazon S3 Bucket Tags. To use this operation, you must have permissions to perform the s3:PutBucketTagging action. The bucket owner has this permission by default and can grant this permission to others. For more information about permissions, see Permissions Related to Bucket Subresource Operations and Managing Access Permissions to Your Amazon S3 Resources. PutBucketTagging has the following special errors:
  • Error code: InvalidTagError
  • Error code: MalformedXMLError
    • Description: The XML provided does not match the schema.
  • Error code: OperationAbortedError
    • Description: A conflicting conditional operation is currently in progress against this resource. Please try again.
  • Error code: InternalError
    • Description: The service was unable to apply the provided tag to the bucket.

S3 requests can be performed using one of two URI styles: Virtual or Path. When using Virtual style, the bucket is included as part of the hostname. When using Path style the bucket is included as part of the URI path. The default value is $true when the EndpointUrl parameter is specified, $false otherwise.

Use the -Select parameter to control the cmdlet output. The cmdlet doesn't have a return value by default. Specifying -Select '*' will result in the cmdlet returning the whole service response (Amazon.S3.Model.PutBucketTaggingResponse). Specifying -Select '^ParameterName' will result in the cmdlet returning the selected cmdlet parameter value.

Enables S3 accelerate by sending requests to the accelerate endpoint instead of the regular region endpoint. To use this feature, the bucket name must be DNS compliant and must not contain periods (.).

Configures the request to Amazon S3 to use the dualstack endpoint for a region. S3 supports dualstack endpoints which return both IPv6 and IPv4 values. The dualstack mode of Amazon S3 cannot be used with accelerate mode.

Used with SAML-based authentication when ProfileName references a SAML role profile. Contains the network credentials to be supplied during authentication with the configured identity provider's endpoint. This parameter is not required if the user's default network identity can or should be used during authentication.

Outputs

This cmdlet does not generate any output.The service response (type Amazon.S3.Model.PutBucketTaggingResponse) can be referenced from properties attached to the cmdlet entry in the $AWSHistory stack.

Examples

Example 1

PS C:\>Write-S3BucketTagging -BucketName cloudtrail-test-2018 -TagSet @( @{ Key=”Stage”; Value=”Test” }, @{ Key=”Environment”; Value=”Alpha” } )
This command applies two tags to a bucket named cloudtrail-test-2018: a tag with a key of Stage and a value of Test, and a tag with a key of Environment and a value of Alpha. To verify that the tags were added to the bucket, run Get-S3BucketTagging -BucketName bucket_name. The results should show the tags that you applied to the bucket in the first command. Note that Write-S3BucketTagging overwrites the entire existing tag set on a bucket. To add or delete individual tags, run the Resource Groups and Tagging API cmdlets, Add-RGTResourceTag and Remove-RGTResourceTag. Alternatively, use Tag Editor in the AWS Management Console to manage S3 bucket tags.

Example 2

PS C:\>Get-S3Bucket -BucketName cloudtrail-test-2018 | Write-S3BucketTagging -TagSet @( @{ Key=”Stage”; Value=”Production” }, @{ Key=”Department”; Value=”Finance” } )
This command pipes a bucket named cloudtrail-test-2018 into the Write-S3BucketTagging cmdlet. It applies tags Stage:Production and Department:Finance to the bucket. Note that Write-S3BucketTagging overwrites the entire existing tag set on a bucket.
