Synopsis

Calls the AWS Identity and Access Management AttachUserPolicy API operation.

Description

Attaches the specified managed policy to the specified user. You use this operation to attach a managed policy to a user. To embed an inline policy in a user, use PutUserPolicy. As a best practice, you can validate your IAM policies. To learn more, see Validating IAM policies in the IAM User Guide. For more information about policies, see Managed policies and inline policies in the IAM User Guide.

Use the -Select parameter to control the cmdlet output. The cmdlet doesn't have a return value by default. Specifying -Select '*' will result in the cmdlet returning the whole service response (Amazon.IdentityManagement.Model.AttachUserPolicyResponse). Specifying -Select '^ParameterName' will result in the cmdlet returning the selected cmdlet parameter value.

The name (friendly name, not ARN) of the IAM user to attach the policy to.This parameter allows (through its regex pattern) a string of characters consisting of upper and lowercase alphanumeric characters with no spaces. You can also include any of the following characters: _+=,.@-

Only specify this parameter if you must direct the call to a specific custom endpoint.

The user-defined name of an AWS credentials or SAML-based role profile containing credential information. The profile is expected to be found in the secure credential file shared with the AWS SDK for .NET and AWS Toolkit for Visual Studio. You can also specify the name of a profile stored in the .ini-format credential file used with the AWS CLI and other AWS SDKs.

This cmdlet does not generate any output.The service response (type Amazon.IdentityManagement.Model.AttachUserPolicyResponse) be returned by specifying '-Select *'.

Examples

Example 1

Register-IAMUserPolicy -UserName Bob -PolicyArn arn:aws:iam::aws:policy/AmazonCognitoPowerUser
This example attaches the AWS managed policy named AmazonCognitoPowerUser to the IAM user Bob. The user is immediately affected by the permissions defined in the latest version of that policy.
