Service availability details
AWS Directory Service will stop accepting new customers starting November 7, 2025. AWS Transform is our next-generation, agentic AI service that provides similar capabilities and enhanced VM discovery and assessment capabilities. Existing AWS Directory Service customers can continue using the service to complete their ongoing discovery projects, which typically have a 4-month lifecycle. The service's core functionality for discovering and collecting data about on-premises servers and applications is now available in AWS Transform with improved features, requiring no customer effort for transition.
Until November 7, 2025, we will continue to maintain AWS Directory Service's security and reliability. While we will not be adding new features to the service, we remain committed to providing security updates and maintaining service availability to ensure your ongoing migration projects continue to run smoothly. Our focus is on ensuring a stable environment for existing customers to complete their in-flight migration initiatives while preparing for the enhanced capabilities available in AWS Transform.
AWS Transform transition
AWS Transform is our recommended solution that brings together all AWS Directory Service capabilities while introducing powerful new features. It provides comprehensive discovery and assessment capabilities through agent-based and agentless collectors, with enhanced VMware environment analysis. The service enables automated application dependency mapping and wave planning, while offering improved discovery logic with what-if analysis and cost estimates. With advanced features including integrated storage and database discovery, consolidated 3P tool integration, and comprehensive VM configuration analysis, AWS Transform is designed to make customers' migration assessment and planning process more efficient and successful.
Transitioning to AWS Transform is straightforward, with no data migration required. Existing discovery projects in AWS Directory Service will continue to function normally until completion. When customers are ready to start new discovery projects, they can begin using AWS Transform directly - all the discovery and assessment capabilities from ADS are available there with enhanced features. To begin using AWS Transform please refer to the Getting Started Guide. AWS Support team is available through the AWS Support console to assist with AWS Transform access or questions about ongoing discovery projects.
