Calculates the Spot placement score for a Region or Availability Zone based on the specified target capacity and compute requirements.
You can specify your compute requirements either by using InstanceRequirementsWithMetadata
and letting Amazon EC2 choose the optimal instance types to fulfill your Spot request, or you can specify the instance types by using InstanceTypes
.
For more information, see Spot placement score in the Amazon EC2 User Guide .

MaxSpotPriceAsPercentageOfOptimalOnDemandPrice -> (integer)
[Price protection] The price protection threshold for Spot Instances, as a percentage of an identified On-Demand price. The identified On-Demand price is the price of the lowest priced current generation C, M, or R instance type with your specified attributes. If no current generation C, M, or R instance type matches your attributes, then the identified price is from the lowest priced current generation instance types, and failing that, from the lowest priced previous generation instance types that match your attributes. When Amazon EC2 selects instance types with your attributes, it will exclude instance types whose price exceeds your specified threshold.
The parameter accepts an integer, which Amazon EC2 interprets as a percentage.
If you set
TargetCapacityUnitType
tovcpu
ormemory-mib
, the price protection threshold is based on the per vCPU or per memory price instead of the per instance price.Note
Only one ofSpotMaxPricePercentageOverLowestPrice
orMaxSpotPriceAsPercentageOfOptimalOnDemandPrice
can be specified. If you don't specify either, Amazon EC2 will automatically apply optimal price protection to consistently select from a wide range of instance types. Cpu -> (structure)
The CPU performance to consider, using an instance family as the baseline reference.
References -> (list)
Specify an instance family to use as the baseline reference for CPU performance. All instance types that match your specified attributes will be compared against the CPU performance of the referenced instance family, regardless of CPU manufacturer or architecture differences.
Note
Currently, only one instance family can be specified in the list.(structure)
Specify an instance family to use as the baseline reference for CPU performance. All instance types that match your specified attributes will be compared against the CPU performance of the referenced instance family, regardless of CPU manufacturer or architecture.
Note
Currently, only one instance family can be specified in the list.InstanceFamily -> (string)
The instance family to use as a baseline reference.
Note
Ensure that you specify the correct value for the instance family. The instance family is everything before the period (.

--dry-run
| --no-dry-run
(boolean)
Checks whether you have the required permissions for the action, without actually making the request, and provides an error response. If you have the required permissions, the error response isDryRunOperation
. Otherwise, it isUnauthorizedOperation
.
--cli-input-json
(string)
Performs service operation based on the JSON string provided. The JSON string follows the format provided by --generate-cli-skeleton
. If other arguments are provided on the command line, the CLI values will override the JSON-provided values. It is not possible to pass arbitrary binary values using a JSON-provided value as the string will be taken literally.
--starting-token
(string)
A token to specify where to start paginating. This is the
NextToken
from a previously truncated response. For usage examples, see Pagination in the AWS Command Line Interface User Guide .
--page-size
(integer)
The size of each page to get in the AWS service call. This does not affect the number of items returned in the command's output. Setting a smaller page size results in more calls to the AWS service, retrieving fewer items in each call. This can help prevent the AWS service calls from timing out.
For usage examples, see Pagination in the AWS Command Line Interface User Guide .
--max-items
(integer)
The total number of items to return in the command's output. If the total number of items available is more than the value specified, a
NextToken
is provided in the command's output. To resume pagination, provide theNextToken
value in thestarting-token
argument of a subsequent command. Do not use theNextToken
response element directly outside of the AWS CLI.For usage examples, see Pagination in the AWS Command Line Interface User Guide .
--generate-cli-skeleton
(string)
Prints a JSON skeleton to standard output without sending an API request. If provided with no value or the value input
, prints a sample input JSON that can be used as an argument for --cli-input-json
. If provided with the value output
, it validates the command inputs and returns a sample output JSON for that command.
--debug
(boolean)
Turn on debug logging.
--endpoint-url
(string)
Override command's default URL with the given URL.
--no-verify-ssl
(boolean)
By default, the AWS CLI uses SSL when communicating with AWS services. For each SSL connection, the AWS CLI will verify SSL certificates. This option overrides the default behavior of verifying SSL certificates.
--no-paginate
(boolean)
Disable automatic pagination. If automatic pagination is disabled, the AWS CLI will only make one call, for the first page of results.
--output
(string)
The formatting style for command output.
--query
(string)
A JMESPath query to use in filtering the response data.
--profile
(string)
Use a specific profile from your credential file.
--region
(string)
The region to use. Overrides config/env settings.
--version
(string)
Display the version of this tool.
--color
(string)
Turn on/off color output.
--no-sign-request
(boolean)
Do not sign requests. Credentials will not be loaded if this argument is provided.
--ca-bundle
(string)
The CA certificate bundle to use when verifying SSL certificates. Overrides config/env settings.
--cli-read-timeout
(int)
The maximum socket read time in seconds. If the value is set to 0, the socket read will be blocking and not timeout. The default value is 60 seconds.
--cli-connect-timeout
(int)
The maximum socket connect time in seconds. If the value is set to 0, the socket connect will be blocking and not timeout. The default value is 60 seconds.
To use the following examples, you must have the AWS CLI installed and configured. See the Getting started guide in the AWS CLI User Guide for more information.
Unless otherwise stated, all examples have unix-like quotation rules. These examples will need to be adapted to your terminal's quoting rules. See Using quotation marks with strings in the AWS CLI User Guide .
To calculate the Spot placement score for specified requirements
The following get-spot-placement-scores
example first generates a list of all of the possible parameters that can be specified for the Spot placement score configuration using the --generate-cli-skeleton
parameter, and saves the list to a JSON file. Then, the JSON file is used to configure the requirements to use to calculate the Spot placement score.

SpotPlacementScores -> (list)
The Spot placement score for the top 10 Regions or Availability Zones, scored on a scale from 1 to 10. Each score reflects how likely it is that each Region or Availability Zone will succeed at fulfilling the specified target capacity at the time of the Spot placement score request . A score of
10
means that your Spot capacity request is highly likely to succeed in that Region or Availability Zone.If you request a Spot placement score for Regions, a high score assumes that your fleet request will be configured to use all Availability Zones and the
capacity-optimized
allocation strategy. If you request a Spot placement score for Availability Zones, a high score assumes that your fleet request will be configured to use a single Availability Zone and thecapacity-optimized
allocation strategy.Different Regions or Availability Zones might return the same score.
Note
The Spot placement score serves as a recommendation only. No score guarantees that your Spot request will be fully or partially fulfilled.(structure)
The Spot placement score for this Region or Availability Zone. The score is calculated based on the assumption that the
capacity-optimized
allocation strategy is used and that all of the Availability Zones in the Region can be used.Region -> (string)
The Region.AvailabilityZoneId -> (string)
The Availability Zone.Score -> (integer)
The placement score, on a scale from1
to10
. A score of10
indicates that your Spot request is highly likely to succeed in this Region or Availability Zone. A score of1
indicates that your Spot request is not likely to succeed.
NextToken -> (string)
The token to include in another request to get the next page of items. This value isnull
when there are no more items to return.
